Poker Tournaments

There are three primary differences between poker tournaments and ring games. First, a poker tournament has a defined beginning and end. All tournament players begin the game with an equal number of chips and typically play poker until one player is left standing, winning all of the chips. This is different from a ring game, in which a player joins a Texas Hold’em or Omaha Poker table with ongoing poker action. These players can come and go and the game has no defined end, short of the table closing.

Second, the chips used in poker tournaments have no inherent value—they exist only while the tournament is in play and cannot be cashed out or used to play in another game.

Finally, the blinds at a ring game stay the same. In a tournament, however, the blinds and antes are raised at regular intervals, making the pots larger and the play more intense by forcing players to get involved in the game before they run out of chips.

There are two main types of tournaments:

Sit & Go Poker Tournaments

Sit & Go Tournaments start as soon as all of the seats are occupied. You can generally find one to play shortly after you log on to Everest Poker. In general, Sit & Go Tournaments are restricted to a relatively small number of players, so the action tends to be fast-paced and you need not set aside a lot of time to participate.

Entering tournaments has never been faster or easier! Everest Poker offers Sit & Go Tournaments in a range of buy-ins and table sizes. Whether you're a novice or a high roller, you can join a tournament now.

•Single-Table. Single-Table Sit & Go's are exciting, single-table elimination tournaments. The action at Single-Table Sit & Go Tournaments can also be very fast. We offer 10-seat and 6-seat tables, as well as 2-seat Heads Up tables where winner takes all!

•Multi-Table. If you like the idea of immediate play, but want to compete against more players, Multi-Table Sit & Go's have all the volume and competitive excitement of Scheduled Tournaments. And, with more players than Single-Table Sit & Go’s, these tournaments can deliver big payouts—not to mention that when more people play, more get paid.

Scheduled Poker Tournaments

Scheduled Tournaments start at a particular date and time. These tournaments are announced well in advance and players must register in order to participate. Scheduled tournaments may have thousands of players and often have huge prize pools.

Players are required to register in advance of the tournament. At start time, they are equally distributed over as many as hundreds of tables. As the tournament progresses and players are eliminated, tables are consolidated. The winner of a tournament is the player who ends up with all of the chips. Since so many players participate, the prize pool for a tournament without pre-set limits can sometimes be enormous, even paying out to as many as one hundred players on occasion.

Everest Poker offers a range of tournaments every day—satellites and freerolls, low and high stakes. Review our Tournament Calendar to see our weekly tournament schedule.

Note that in some Scheduled Tournaments, you can also win Tournament Tokens, which can be used to buy in to other tournaments.
